HDMI generelt.
HDMI er den nyeste standard inden for overførsel af videosignaler. Et HDMI kabel gør det muligt at overføre både billede i fuld HD format og lyden i digital surround sound 100 % digitalt imellem f.eks en DVD afspiller og et tv.

HDMI standarden bruges i dag i mange typer multimedie enheder, f.eks DVD- og bluray afspillere, spillekonsoller, digitale parabolreceivere, fladskærme og projektorer. HDMI kan udover at overføre billede i fuld HD opløsning også overføre lyd i suveræne lydformater. HDMI Standarden er f.eks forberedt til at overføre 8 kanals digial lyd i de nye DTS HD og Dolby True HD formater. HDMI er endvidere bagud kompatibel med DVI standarden, det vil sige at du kan koble et HDMI kabel sammen med udstyr der benytter DVI.

Med et HDMI kabel undgår du kvalitetsforringende konvertering af signalet til analog, og tilbage til digital igen, dette ses let på resultatet. Et HDMI kabel giver flere detaljer, færre fejl i billedet og en helt overlegen gengivelse af farver og kontraster. Det vil sige at et HDMI kabel i skrivende stund er den absolut bedste løsning, og giver en betydeligt bedre billedkvalitet end både scart og Component.

HDMI 1.4 er bagud kompatibel med alle tidligere HDMI versioner, så der vil f.eks. ikke være noget problem i at bruge et HDMI 1.4 kabel i en HDMI 1.3 certificeret port.
